Tashi Tsering: I was born in India, and have been living in Taiwan for 19 years. I never felt that I have a home. Today I am hosting members of the HRNTT and the legislators in Dharamsara, and that makes me feel that this is my home. HRNTT is not an organization that aims to help Tibet, I hope that it is also an organization that helps Taiwan. We hope that this Network can serve as a platform for collaboration on human rights issues of Tibet and Taiwan.<\/p>\n Song-Lih Huang: About our first visit to Dharamsala, I am happy to report that it is very fruitful. We were kindly received by His Holiness, Sikyong, the Speaker and members of the parliament. We feel honored and warm-hearted. We visited the Department of Information and International Relations, and had discussion with staffs of the Central Tibetan Administration. We want to express our gratitude to our friends who help in the arrangement. We also had interesting interaction with of some members of the Tibetan Youth Congress and other NGOs. The purpose of these interactions is to communicate on projects which we can work on together in the future. Up to now we have some primitive ideas. The first is to communicate with the government and reduce the barrier for Tibetan students to pursue postgraduate education in Taiwan. The second is to publish a newspaper in Tibetan for children. The content of the newspaper is not only for the children, but is also by the children and of the children. We hope that this newspaper can help to link children in different settlements, and encourage children to develop their writing skills. We hope that the details of collaboration can be developed further by continued communication.<\/p>\n Legislator Freddy Lim: The civil society in Taiwan has always been concerned with Tibetan issues, but the government often opted for silence. This has changed because new political parties have gathered power, and achieved the first change-of-power in Taiwan\u2019s parliament. We will organize an All-Party Parliamentary Group for Tibet in Taiwan\u2019s Legislative Yuan, as a demonstration of good will, and commitment for further effort, towards Tibetan society on the part of Taiwan\u2019s parliament. At the meantime, we extended our invitation to His Holiness, and I hope that His Holiness can deliver a speech in the Parliament.<\/p>\n Legislator Kolas Yotaka: Let me share with you the message I conveyed to Lobsang Sangay the Sikyong during this visit: \u201cAs a member of Indigenous Peoples in Taiwan who have to endure the oppression of the Han imperialism, I can feel the same kind of pain among Tibetans. Upon assuming duty as a legislator, I paid special attention to Tibetan issues. I have sent in a bill to protect the right to legally reside in Taiwan for Tibetans who are in Taiwan, and another bill to abolish the Mongolian and Tibetan Affairs Commission. Human rights workers have organized activities to commemorate the 310 Uprising Day each year, and the HRNTT has started to organize Lhakar the first Wednesday evening each month. \nThe Human Rights Network for Tibet and Taiwan is a coalition of Taiwan-based NGOs. Although the members work on different issues, the common concern is human rights. Members of the HRNTT realize that the value of human rights is universal, and that the suffering of one person in any part of the world is a burden on the whole world. On the other hand, improving the rights of one person anywhere in the world is an inspiration for people everywhere. We also recognize that Taiwan and Tibet share many common grounds, for historical reasons. Both of us need to struggle to protect and improve our rights. There is a lot to be learnt from each other.<\/p>\n
